Noel Squitieri Memorial Surf Show

Noel Squitieri was the most avid surf music fan we have ever met.  He was also a kind and generous person, always willing to welcome fellow surf enthusiasts into his home to talk about gear, swap stories or just share his hospitality along with his wife Barbara and children.

We were lucky that Noel lived in Pittsburgh, so we were able to get to know him personally and see him at the local surf shows in the area.  We also know that he was quick to make friends through online social networks.  Many folks out there all over the world shared in his outgoing spirit.

It is in his spirit of generosity that we put together a surf show with the help of the fabulous Surfer Joe, to honor Noel's enthusiasm for surf music.  Proceeds from the show will be donated to the Special Olympics.

This show will take place Sunday July 14, 2024 at Moondog's Pub in Pittsburgh.  Joining Surfer Joe will the The Boss Stingrays and the Turbosonics!  If you live close to Pittsburgh we hope to see you there.  For the rest of Noel's global network, we hope the you join us in a prayer for his family and carry on the surf music torch as Noel would have wanted.

SURF ROCK SUMMIT III

The Surf Rock Summit returns for a third time! Once again we've got three Pittsburgh bands giving it up to the great surf sounds of the past *and* the future. We've got The Turbosonics, The Killifish, and the Hi-Frequencies, rocking out from 8 pm on. $10 cover charge. Come on toast the first full day of Spring! Surf's not far away!

In the headlining slot is The Turbosonics, a trio that has been rocking out on classic surf tunes and distinctive originals in Pittsburgh for over 10 years. They are regulars in local venues and are often seen on the road, from Ohio to New York.

Second on the bill is The Killifish, a trio of highly active local musicians, including Jeff Berman (of Appalasia and Blink, among many others) on drums, Daryl Shawn (known as a frequently-appearing solo artist) on guitar, and 6-string bassist Hollis Greathouse. They add a sophisticated sense of improvisation and interplay to their original music.

Kicking off the evening is the return of the Hi-Frequencies, who put out their first recording back in 1999. They nail the early 60's sound with their own original twist.

Stones vs. Beatles at Cattivo!

(Beatles Win!  Ha, ha...jk)

The Turbosonics once again team up with local country crooner, Slim Forsythe, for an evening of retro-rock fun.  This time the Turbo-trio and Forsythe hit the stage at Cattivo in Lawrenceville on Saturday November 15, 2014 at 9 PM.

Curated by DJ Zombo, the night's entertainment features songs by the Beatles on the first-floor stage, and the Rolling Stones on the basement stage.   Be sure to come out and see several guest musicians delve into the past for some great renditions of classic tunes.  See you there!!!

Steeltown Shakedown and WDVE

The Turbosonics once again return to the Steeltown Shakedown at the Twin Hi-Way Drive-In, on Saturday, September 6, 2014.  It is their sixth year in a row playing this event, and it's gotten better every year.  This year The Turbosonics are sharing the bill with local honky-tonk rockers, Mickey and the Snake Oil Boys.

And just to be sure to get the word out to everyone, the Turbosonics are returning to the 102.5 WDVE studios to perform live on the Morning Coffeehouse.  The Coffeehouse is a local music spotlight every Friday morning just after 9 am.  Tune in on Friday September 5, 2014 at 9:00 am to hear the Turbosonics blast the airwaves with an original surf-rock sizzler.
